LAPCATS
Showcases the Shelter’s Wonderful Adult Cats
LAPCATS
(which stands for the Laguna Adoption Program County Animals TEAM
Sacramento) focuses on re-homing some of the many wonderful adult
cats taken into the county shelter each day. These beautiful cats,
most over 1 year old, are sometimes overlooked at the shelter, particularly
during kitten season. LAPCATS also has “teenagers” and
occasional kittens available for adoption. TEAM helps defray the
costs of additional health services needed to enhance the adoptability
of these adult cats. Prior to adoption, all LAPCATS cats are spayed/neutered,
treated for fleas/ticks, de-wormed, vaccinated, microchipped and
have tested negative for FELV/FIV. Each adoption includes a free
office visit at a participating veterinarian and county residents
receive a county license. The LAPCATS adoption center is at the
PetSmart on Laguna Boulevard in Elk Grove and the cats are available
seven days a week. As each cat is adopted, other shelter cats are
rotated into the program. The LAPCATS program has placed more than
550 cats and kittens (and occasional dogs) since it was begun in
2005. Volunteers work to educate the public about responsible pet
care, feral cat care, spaying/neutering and behavior issues. LAPCATS
continually promotes shelter animal adoptions and networks with
other rescue organizations. For more information about LAPCATS,
